Where to go and What to do?
Jun. 12th, 2006 07:44 amThis damn trying to find yourself stuff bites...
I'm second guessing the culinary thing again... I started looking up nutrition and horticulture degrees.
It's starting to look like if I want to stay in the state of GA UGA ia my best bet... BUT if I'm going to move away from all my friends and risk things just to move to athens which is a college town I don't really totally like then... why not really try a leap of faith and go somewhere like Bolder or LA or I dunno...
The only thing about LA is I looked up UCLA... they require a 3.2 GPA for transfer students and I know that if I start looking into doing their environmental science degree I really have to retake Calc and Stat. That would bring my GPA up big time though if I could manage a B in those two classes... not sure how I'd manage that though the 69's I got in those were achieved with significant amount of struggle and pulling out of hair.
Plus I'm not sure how the whole transfer of my english stuff is going to work 'cause like I said I made a B in English 1102 at Kennesaw but recently made a C in English 193 (the equivalent course) at the tech school.
But I really have to find something... I don't want to be a clerk in an office forever. I want to work because I enjoy it and feel like I'm doing something with it.
I've been surfing around on the www.livingroutes.org website again. I'd like to find a degree that the courses they offer will work towards...
I dunno anyone got any school and/or degree suggestions for me?

Date: 2006-06-12 05:17 pm (UTC)i still think you should try and became a personal chef/housekeep/nanny/domestic goddess sort of thing. people pay well for that.

Date: 2006-06-12 05:43 pm (UTC)Culinary school is all about constant stress. If you're not stressed at any given point in time, it's pretty positive that you're not doing it correctly.
You're constantly on your feet, and you have to be ready to handle a lot of physical activity day after day when you're at school.
I've seen culinary school eat a lot of people alive, there's many people who just weren't prepared for that much tension in their lives.
Have you ever worked in the restaurant industry? You should really give a busy, upscale place a try before you even consider culinary school. Same stress, no pay.
Hope that helps a little.

Date: 2006-06-12 09:08 pm (UTC)Although it's wierd 'cause I handle different kinds of stress differently and some I do really amazingly well with where as other kinds I totally fall apart...
I just so hate thinking those path might not work out for me now... 'cause it's been really the only thing I was thinking I wanted.

www.collegesource.com
I used that to find schools for my pursuit for a horticulture degree. Personally i am looking for schools that have strong horticulture/agriculture communities. But the real question I always ask myself is, is what I want to do will not only make my life content but i can also eventually buy a house and pay my bills with. Watching my mom struggle to support me and my brother fuels my objective. i would love to open my own nursery or maybe be plant breeder. maybe a researcher.

Being down in the south, is cool, but i know it isn't for me. even after almost seven months, i still feel disconnected to everything. i've met people, even found a local larp club. but if you really are flirting with the idea of moving, you have to be financially and emotionally ready to move to a completely different place. But I've glad I did it. I feel a hell of alot freer and i finally feel like i'm starting to grow up. there isn't the security blanket of family and friends that are immediately there for you. If I could do it all over again, I would still move, but I would be better prepared. I personally think I am a yankee girl through and through ^_^ i'm thinking washington state university.

I agree with everyone's elses opinions about LA. There other places that you could still have a great and cheaper education some place else.

I've already talked to the science advisor at ksu. she suggested i just take my core classes here. I already have a few universities that i am looking at. since i've just taken two classes so far, i have a bit of time to still window shop. before my final year or so, i plan on doing my homework.. visiting unversities and speaking to students, alumni, professors blah, blah, blah. if i were you, i would try to gather your transfers and talk to potential schools and see what they say. each school may have different requirements.

Date: 2006-06-14 02:26 am (UTC)Oh, and you need to come hang over here sometime. Hell, if you were up for it, you could come spend the night for a night or two around those two weeks coming up when Josh is gonna be gone. Of course you're welcome to visit pretty much anytime as long as I know you're coming so I can be sure the place is relatively clean.

Date: 2006-06-14 07:14 pm (UTC)I am thinking of going back to KSU but I'm just not sure about the programs they offer. I might try to take a few courses that will most likely transfer like Chem and Biology.
