Today has been full and fun!

First thing this AM I woke around 8. I got a shower and got dressed. I had to go to a ceremonial planting at the college. We are doing a Service Learning Project that is supported by Learn and Serve America. We are planting a garden and the produce will be donated to a food bank. It is part of the Plant a Row for the hungry campaign. I'm really excited about it. Anyway, we helped the children in the schools early child hood daycare plant tomatoes and marigolds. They were sooooo cute! Some of them were all for it and others were all OMG! Dirt No way! There was a speech by the dean. And Lots of news papers were there. I think it was someone from the Paulding/Douglas Sentinel and the AJC. There will also be a story in the Dallas New Era.

So after that I came home. I was tired, but decided while I had time I would clean out my car. It looks so awesome, and more then one person can sit in it now. woot!

I then went to Home Depot. (I really wanna stop buying my plants from box stores, but I don't know why I'm intimidated by nurseries.) I bought Blood meal, Bone meal, and some other natural fertilizers. I bought seedlings too. I got Basil, flat leaf parsley, two kinds of tomatoes, yellow bell peppers, eggplant, squash, and Sweet potatoes.

I came home, and worked in the amendments. I double dug two more of the beds. I separated the basil and parsley because they had three or four plants growing in one container. I then planted the 5 sweet potato plants. (I'm going to be swimming in sweet potatoes if they all survive.) I then dug out the new bed, and planted the tomatoes, eggplant, and pepper. I still have the squash to plant but it was getting dark already.

I need to get a small flat of Marigolds to inter plant. I plan on growing some from seed but I want to have a few in bloom soon to ward of the critters. I bought the basil and the parsley because I've had no luck growing them from seed. I dunno why. I'll probably try poking a seed or two in but I didn't want to have to depend on it.

I really want to work in the garden again tomorrow, but I'm afraid I'm going to be so sore I wont be able to get out of bed.

Piccies will come soon.

How do you plan on growing them, in containers or in the ground? are you growing from seed or purchasing seedlings?

Most herbs REALLY like the sun. You should plant them in full sun, which means at least 8 hours of sun a day.

Most purchased seedlings come with more plants in the pot then you need. Try separating them to more appropriate distance. Also you will want to pinch the tops when they start getting several inches tall in order to make them branch out.

I also finished your mommies hat. I need an addy.
