job and health
Jul. 13th, 2008 01:05 amSo I started my Job on Thursday! I love it. The day flies by because I'm active all day long. I get to socialize with people, but I'm not really dealing with "the public." So far my day has been trash rounds from 7am to 10am break. Pretty much this is going around picking up litter and emptying the outdoor trash bins around the campus. Then after the 10am break we've been weeding. literally I'm being paid $11.45 an hour to pull friggin weeds... I mean how awesome! I almost can't believe it.
I love ridding the bus to work too. I have to get up a little earlier and I get home a little latter, but it's so great to not have to drive to work tired and be all irritable when I get there because of traffic, and then when I'm exhausted from a long day of being out in the heat, and doing physical work, I get to relax and have someone drive me home. Not to mention I feel all warm and fuzzy inside because I'm using a commute alternative so I'm being all ecofriendly even if I do live 30 miles from work, and it's WAY WAY cheaper than gasoline.
The only problem though is that I may be allergic to something I'm coming in contact with at work. I really can't figure out what it could be, but I'm not really sure about anything yet. Hell it may be something I'm fixing for my lunch, I really don't have any idea. It's just that my lips started to feel irritated on Thursday kinda late int he day and I just figured they were getting chapped or over exposed to the sun. But my face and arms weren't even slightly sun burned, but I made sure to bring sunscreen to work with me the next day and chap stick.
Neither helped... to say the least. as the day continued my lips got worse and worse they started to swell, got blotchy red scaly patches about a centimeter diameter around them, and itched and burned something fierce. I stopped on the way home from the bus stop and bought some blistex, and face sunscreen. The blistex helped the pain a little but they just seemed to get worse and worse.
This morning I called my dad because it dawned on me that it may be an allergy. I was looking in the mirror at my face and I thought I saw faint red spots like I got when I was a kid and took penicillin. I didn't know if I was seeing things or what, and I've had issues with peri-oral dermatitis and I thought it might be that but it didn't look or feel the same. Anyway, dad came over and seemed pretty convinced it was an allergy. He told me to rub cortisone cream on and around my lips and take some Benadryl. The swelling has gone down a bit, but it's gotten more scaly and when the cortisone wears off it itches horribly.
I can't wait to get my health insurance worked out so I can go see an allergist and get some real help. Dad sent out a blood test a few weeks ago to test for allergies and it was practically no help at all. It came back that pretty much everything I thought were allergies weren't and stuff I've never had any reaction to at all (like tomatoes) turn out to be big allergies for me??? Like seriously weird. Tomatoes don't bother me at all... the only thing I can figure is I hate raw tomatoes so i only eat cooked ones, and it turns out that some people with tomato allergies are only allergic to something in the raw fruit.
I'm slightly afraid it could be a mint allergy. I doubt it because I've never really had a problem before with mint, but I've been consuming a LOT of mint herbal tea, mint gum, burt's bees mint chap stick, and I really like mint so of course I'm terrified that it will be the problem.
