Portable power option???
Jun. 20th, 2004 11:32 amI have an interesting question to pose...
I've decided that I'm going to go to D*con. I've also decided that I will probably do other festivals as well in the future. I am buying a small cash register so that things will go more smoothly, but the problem with this is that it's double the price to get one that runs on batteries and if it runs down memory can be totally lost. And to top of that each festival I've thought of going to charges has wanted $75-100 to provide electricity.
So I'm looking for portable power options less then $200. My favored that I've found was the petal-powered battery pack but it was like $800.
I know I need something that can either store energy or that I can use while in doors. I thought about small solar panels but once I buy the panel then I have to by the battery too. And I'm not sure how much power the register will use. I can't fathom it being much but it has a standard plug.
I mean some of the hand cranked power things on since toy sites are pretty cool but I'm guessing they wouldn't be able to power the register, and I'd have to crank and type at the same time.
I mean I've found a few batteries that would work but I'd really like to research renewable/cleaner options before just going out and jumping on the rechargeable battery option.
Maybe I could by one of the really small 1-watt solar panels of eBay for like $50 and some sort of battery pack that can store the energy and that might not run me to high... I'd just need forever to charge the battery.
any ideas?
